I’M BLACK TOO W Frame

This work assembles a visual collection inspired by some of the earliest Black cartoon characters to appear in published media. Through a contemporary lens, the piece reflects on visibility, representation, and the complicated history of animation—acknowledging both progress and the context in which these images were created.

Executed in acrylic and sealed with a high-gloss resin finish, the work balances reverence with reexamination. Presented in a black frame, the restrained finish allows the imagery to hold focus, inviting viewers to engage thoughtfully with animation history and its lasting cultural impact.
